Senior Software Engineer (Agents)

About this role

• You'll be a senior engineer on the core agent layer, the system that takes an engineer's intent and executes multi-step workflows across complex desktop engineering software.
• This is the hardest and most important problem at the company.
• You'll report directly to the CTO and work as a senior individual contributor alongside AI engineers, a user researcher, and domain expert contractors.
• You don't need to have built LLM agents before.
• What matters is a strong foundation in computer science and real curiosity about agents.
• You'll be measured on agent task success rate, token efficiency, and workflow coverage.
• What You'll Own Build the core of the agent: tool-calling, state management across long multi-step workflows, error recovery, context management, and model routing Profile and optimize latency, track cost per completed workflow, and enforce per-task token budgets so the agent is commercially viable Write production code that drives desktop CAD/CAE/PLM applications on locked-down enterprise workstations, where robustness, concurrency, and failure handling matter Build evaluation infrastructure with benchmarks grounded in real user stories: reproducible, adversarial, and tied to customer value Work with the user researcher and domain experts to turn validated user stories into eval cases, and expand the share of workflow steps the agent handles end to end Raise the engineering bar through code review and sound design, and work with integration, product, and customers during POCs Required Qualifications Extremely strong software engineering fundamentals 3-10 years of experience as a software engineer, shipping and maintaining production systems Depth in Python plus one other language Able to work on-site in San Francisco 5 days a week Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of experience Experience at hyper-growth startups Familiarity with enterprise deployment constraints: how software behaves on a locked-down corporate workstation Degree from a top 20 CS program Experience with desktop automation, COM, or controlling applications programmatically Experience building agents and agentic AI systems
